The Code was enacted in the year 1962 in Canada, to eradicate discrimination against individuals on protected ground.  Human Rights Code, R.S.O 1990. H.19, part I outlines freedom from discrimination. In Section 5(1) of the code, every person has a right to equal treatment with respect to employment without discrimination on the basis of the following:

  • Ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or sexual orientation.
