  • Endospore formation begin in a compartment separate from the mother cell

Explanation:

Endospore formation is triggered by insufficient nutrients whereby the bacterium divides within its wall, one side of the bacteria engulfing the other. This begins mostly at the stationary phase when the nutrients in the culture are exhausted. During endospore formation, the spore is formed from an intracellular compartment within the mother cell. The two compartments formed during sporulation are the larger mother cell and the smaller forespore. The spore coat is strengthened by high calcium content.
